I guess I can finally talk about this here now.

That was a waste of two years, $7000+, and a whole lot of energy. I finally got the dreaded thin-letter of denial in the mail from the FBI. For those of you not following along at home, I applied for a job as an FBI Special Agent way back in 2005. Since then I've been slowly working through the process of written tests, interviews, fitness tests, drug tests, etc. I got a conditional offer of employment in June, contingent on passing the rest of the process. Unfortunately they have decided that I'm no longer competitive and have been eliminated from consideration. My appeal for a reconsideration has already been received and denied. It's over. What a long, strange trip it's been.

It's weird, this is something I have been working on for so long (I spent over a year gaining the qualifications I needed before I even applied in 2005) that I'm really not sure what to do now. This is all I've been thinking about in terms of my career for a long time. For now I guess I just keep plugging away at Apple. I don't know if it's what I want to do forever, certainly my current position isn't where I want to be long-term, but I could see myself maybe staying at Apple in a different role for a while. Time will tell I guess. In the meantime I'll have to accept that The X-Files and Without a Trace are now the closest I'm going to get to the Bureau.
