So of course by now you have undoubtedly read about and seen on tv all the stuff going on in Afghanistan. I read in the paper yesterday that when the news of the first bombings was announced, fans at the 49'ers game started cheering and chanting "USA USA". To me that just seems wrong. They are cheering what? The fact that we're dropping bombs? Great, thats something to cheer about. I heard that 4 UN staff members were alread confirmed dead due to the bombings. I wonder how many other innocent civilians were killed that we don't know about yet? Maybe none, but I wouldn't bet on it. But you know, thats something to cheer about, right? As Oscar Wilde once said, "Patriotism is the virtue of the vicious."

I got an email recently from someone with a signature that seems strangely appropriate at the moment: "Violence is the last resort of incompetents." -- Isaac Asimov. Seems about right...
